Walking Back in Time

7.02.2009

I sat down last weekend with a stack of magazines to catch up on. I'll admit that I am usually not the biggest fan of Southern Accents because it has always seemed a bit too fancy for me. But was quite surprised at what I saw in the latest issue. I loved Architect Bill Ingram's new house on Lake Martin. While reading the article I remembered that his 'other' lake house was published in Cottage Living last summer. In honor of all of those headed to the lake (whichever one it may be)- I thought I would do a post on Mr. Ingram's old lake house and his new one.
.
His old lake house was published in the July/August 2008 issue of Cottage Living. It is a 750 sf. cottage on the shore of Lake Martin. It's small and quaint. I could easily spend my weekends here.
.

And welcome to the new house. He recently built this house after selling his old one. I just adore this house. Another one to add to my forever files. And I would really love to spend all of my weekends here!.

I love this post. His original house was amazing, but the new one is beyond words. You had me with the first picture of the deck overlooking the lake. The foyer is beutiful, and I love the open and airy feel to the stairs. I just don't think I could handle the all glass bathroom door (although, the door itself is just gorgeous).

I am always a big fan of Southern Accents, and I thought there was a special charm to this issue. I read it on an airplane, and I couldn't believe that there was article after article of beautiful features - usually a magazine will have a few, but this one had so many!

I really liked the kitchen and the master bedroom in this home. In fact, I have been struggling with how to finish off my bed - I have a new bedding set up, and have three Euroshams and can't decide whether to get two more accent pillows or just one more. After seeing the picture with the green headboard, I am leaning towards this look - one more accent pillow, probably with a monogram and a flange to match the headboard fabric.

I just adored his first home, but the second, wow. I may need to go pick up the mag just so I can keep that around!

BTW, I found the basket for my light fixture! Now I just need to fixture out how to do it. Any ideas?

Wow! See this is why I need to live in AL! I could easily see myself in both homes, but number 2 is really calling my name!

Hope you have a good 4th!

Love this house! I am picking up Southern Accents more and more frequently.. and it can be a little fancy schmancy (read: not quite accessible or imitable for my house) but they do have some treasures!

Thank you for commenting on my blog! I'm so glad you found me because I'm loving your blog. Especially the last post!! I actually used to work for Bill Ingram in Birmingham and he was always designing new lake houses because every time he built one for himself someone would buy it! I guess the offers were too good to pass up. He's incredibly talented... and a very nice person to boot!
Thanks for sharing!- and blog connecting :)

I love his new house!! The floors are gorgeous!I'm loving all of the dimension of the ceiling beams and plank walls. It's got the casual feel of a lake house without feeling too rustic!

The way that fabric is draped over that bed!!!!! Be still my heart! He got that one (the whole house, not just the bed) right--all right.
