Rustic Yet Refined

9.24.2009

I am constantly reminded of my love for farmhouses and barns. I don't know what it is about them that just lures me in. I liked the title of this article in the recent issue of Martha Stewart Living... Rustic, yet Refined. That's one area of design that I find myself gravitating to over and over again.
.
I love how just a few simple things in this home set the tone for fall/winter. My favorite line in the article is when the owner, Tom Johnson says, "I don't decorate. I just buy stuff I like, and somehow it all works together." That's how I feel about my house. I buy stuff I like... although sometimes I question whether it works together or not!

I love the creative use of components that make up the bed. Beautiful and eye-catching. I have to agree with his philosphy. I'm a big believer in buying what you love. (and then keeping your fingers crossed ;0) )

I loved this article too. There's just something to the simplicity of this house.

You are so funny about you questioning whether it works or not. Love it. I really enjoyed reading about this home when I got my Martha this month. I just adore that table. I wish I had a huge table to decorate that way!

I just finished this month's MSL. Loved that article. I also loved the DIY silhouettes of dogs that were featured.

I need to go pick this one up. I dream of having a barn/house one day! my horses on the main floor, and me upstairs!

I love all the rough-hewn wood. I think it looks especially great with the white walls. I love it!

I promise that you and I are soul mates. I bought that Martha Stewart mag just for that house. It's great. I love the staircase.

This is silly, but I can't find where to email you this...so I'm commenting back! I have to tell you that I've scored A LOT of great stamps in that $1 bin! They beat the $5-$10 price tag at places like paper source! I think I'm also going to attempt some Christmas tags this year...

Yes, I do know Christine Lofton. One of my great friends. I will tell her to swing by your blog. She will be excited! She must have somehow missed it, usually has her blackberry with her at all times!!

You reminded me that "buy gourds" is on my list today. Not sure if I spelled that correctly and too lazy to put it in Word to check. Have a good weekend!
