When and How?

11.17.2009

When do you decorate for Christmas? (Jennifer's post got my mind turning on this one).
.
I'm the day after Thanksgiving kind of girl. That's when our tree goes up, wreath goes on the door, and... I'm not sure what else? I have a small house- so there isn't a room to do a lot.

I do have some Christmas dishes that I put out on my table. Maybe a dish towel here or there in the kitchen. And I think that's about it. Oh, and since we've lived in Birmingham (and have access to a big magnolia tree in our front yard)- I do bring in some branches and locate them around the house.

So when do you decorate for Christmas? And how? What all do you do around your house?

I'm a Thanksgiving weekend girl myself as well. I hate cheating Thanksgiving and rushing into Christmas.

I love that last Martha tree you posted!

I'm usually an after Thanksgiving girl too. This year everyone seems to want to decorate early (maybe something to cheer us up over the bad economy)? I may decide to do it a bit sooner than usual myself.

Most of my decorations are simple (came from a small house, now live in a bigger house but don't feel the need to fill it up). Wreaths, a tree, a few little things here and there (like you). Will you post photos of your holiday decor?

I definitely have to wait until Thanksgiving so that Thanksigiving gets its time in the spotlight! :) I'm loving that entryway with the beautiful garland and sparkly chandy! And thanks too for posting the verse - so true!!!

I love waiting until after Thanksgiving. It's a tradition my mom always did with us, that I want to continue. We'll do a tree of course, then hang some stockings on the mantle. I will make a centerpiece for my dining room table, as well as set out some Christmas plates. Also, this year, I have a shelf in my dining room that will act as a second mantle, and I'll put traditional decor on it. (such as a nativity scene my friend recently made) So excited!!

I am usually a day after Thanksgiving gal as well. But this year I am starting this weekend as volunteered my home for two Holiday Home Tours to raise money. This added pressure means more decorating and ealirer.

we are right after thanksgiving also. Normally i go all out, but i think this year we will stick with just the tree, a wreath on the door and lights on the house. I do have kiddos after all. we need a bit of gaudy.

Our family tradition is to cut down our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. The past few years I have gone towards more natural decorations, i.e. live wreaths and flowers. I love the warmth it adds to the house and of course the lovely smell.

I have GOT to get some Christmas decor for my house! P.S.: my neighbor already has lights up!

I probably won't get it the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I'll pull some things out and get started. I try not to go overboard, but I usually get carried away. When we buy our real tree I ask for scraps (Lowe's will give you as many as you can carry!) and make garland to go over the door, a wreath for the door and more garland to put wherever I can find a place. I love the way it smells!

we decorate the week after Thanksgiving. i am like Jennifer, we get a real tree and then pile up as many scraps in the back of car as we can {i make wreaths and swags our of them}. our basement was full for weeks and smelled great! we live in a condo, so the decor isn't major, just the tree and a few thing here and there.

I used to decorate during the first week of December. Then, I pushed things back to the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I started blogging this year and I've been fighting the urge to get going for the last week. This is hard!

I manage to hold off until around the first week of Dec. My house is on the small size so normally the outside get's down and then the living room!

Last year I did all white, creams, silvers and blue and I loved it. Planning on doing the same this year.

I am not a Christian but we always celebrated Christmas and did up the tree, stocking and celebrated on Christmas Eve with hymns and cake and wine. It is a time when kids feel so excited and enjoy planning on what to put on the tree!!

decorating will be strategic for me this year (teeeny space) probably next weekend?

I had a little "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" ornament I recieved in Sunday school when I was little. I used to keep it out year round and hang it next to my bed:)

I love that first picture and will definitely "copy" for my front entry!
I am a late decorator for Christmas, but will start early this year after Thanksgiving!

I'm in Australia, so no Thanksgiving here. I usually decorate the first weekend in December, but this year I have my first baby due on the 2nd of December so I think I will get things done a bit earlier. I am nesting like crazy and fighting the urge to put all my decorations up right now :)

Well I usually decorate the weekend before Thanksgiving but this year I am planning on decorating the weekend after. I have started some of Christmas craft projects though. I usually put up two trees (one pretty one, one fun one), put a wreath on the door maybe a few more accents. This year I am going to expand it a bit but I am only putting up one tree.

I often don't decorate at all because I am often away for the holidays! But this year my BF's family is coming to visit us, so I get to decorate! I am overwhelmed with the possibilities--looking to my blogs to help me! :-)

I'll be starting the day after Thanksgiving...I'm getting anxious already and have already snuck a few things out. I scored a beautiful vintage white Christmas tree last year and I can't wait to get it out. I try to stick to aqua, green, and silver for my decorations and I love anything that sparkles.

I've been trying to hold off until the day after Thanksgiving but it's not happening this year... Tree is going up tonight!

This just got me in full on Christmas mode! We always put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving. So only a few days to go!
