I love a pretty foyer/entry... since it often sets the tone for the rest of your house. I'm excited that our new house has an actual foyer. I have been looking through photos and saving them to my inspriation file trying to get ideas of what I might want to do in ours.

this and that....

Has anyone seen the Alden Pendant (from Ballard) in person? I really like the looks of it in the catalog.

Alden 5–Light Pendant

I'm sure you've heard... but Tracery has opened a store in Birmingham. I'm so excited! Planning to stop by and visit them this week.

Reading Erika's post reminded me of my initial necklace. While mine is a bit more casual.... it's similar. I thought I would share it with you in case you were in the market for one. Mine is hand stamped on antique brass and is from My Fling on Etsy. Contact Lisa if you are interested... and ask for the Collins necklace. It's only $20 plus $2 shipping!

And I know that I said that I was done with the food posts... but did you know about these? Saw them last week in Publix and picked some up. Identical to the Girl Scout's Samoas. Trouble.

I'm really liking this fabric that I saw on LGN yesterday.  I haven't been to Lewis & Sheron in awhile... and just might need to head that way.

And lastly, I am still working on my blog layout. I hate that I messed it up--- but I will say that whatever I did- blogger was updated and it is MUCH easier for me to post now (as far as cutting, pasting, inserting photos where I would like, etc). But now I just have to find the time to get things just like I want them.

Cake & Roast

Sorry if you aren't into the food posts.... I will be back with design posts next week!
Yesterday I met Doug for lunch at Olexa's in Mountain Brook Village. It is my favorite lunch spot in Birmingham. The food is great but the vanilla buttercream cake is heavenly. I mean it. The.best.cake.ever. They even heat it for just a few seconds before bringing it out to you so it melts in your mouth.

And if you are thinking... does she always eat out- the answer is no. I actually cook most every night of the week (with the exception of Tuesday night being Michael's birthday). Last night we had this:

homemade mac and cheese

I love roast for dinner. You put it in the oven at 8 a.m.- take it out at 6 p.m.- and dinner is ready. Recipes can be found here. Hope you enjoy! BTW--- I'm no food photographer... the meal tasted much better than these photos look!

Little Savannah

I am thinking that this will be food week on Blueprint Bliss. I've had so many great meals lately... so I thought that I'd share.

We started off yesterday with JCT. in Atlanta. They are even open for lunch... so plan on stopping by the next time you plan a shopping trip that way.

Yesterday was Michael's birthday. We had a babysitter come and keep Collins and we headed to our favorite restaurant in our neighborhood--- Little Savannah. I think that Little Savannah is my favorite place to eat dinner in Birmingham (with Hot & Hot, Bottega Cafe, and Chez Fon Fon following closely behind).

Here is a sample of last night's menu. You may have to enlarge but I circled in green Michael's favorite part.

Exterior as you walk up...

Inside looking out....

Changing gears... to oatmeal. I saw this on Bonnie's blog last week (just linked the post and realized she had linked mine to my pumpkin bread. Guess we like to swap recipes!). So this morning I tried it. Super easy and so good.

Today I am going to lunch with one of my favorite design friends to one of my favorite lunch spots. Check back tomorrow for more on that!

JCT. Kitchen & Bar

Michael and I spent this past weekend with some friends in Atlanta. There is always so much to do when there--- it's hard to fit it all in. We shopped a little and ate a lot. I would have to say the highlight of the weekend was dinner on Saturday night at JCT. Kitchen and Bar. From the food to the decor--- it just doesn't get much better.

I have to share the dessert menu with you. We shared two at the end of the evening... the warm chocolate truffle cake and the fried peach pies. Oh.my.goodness. I am already planning a trip back so I can try the 5 other desserts on the menu. You think I'm kidding....

Next up... the decor. I loved everything about it--- both inside and out.
The upstairs bar and patio:
If you are ever in the area- I highly recommend it. It's right behind Star Provisions and B. Braithwaite... and just down the street from Lewis & Sheron and Ikea.

Idea Bookshelf

*I am still working on getting my blog layout to my liking...

I came across these illustrations on
Carolina Postcard. And I just love them.

The artist "paint sets of books as a form of portraiture: a person's favorites (of all time, within a genre or from a particular period in their lives); the ones that helped make them who they are today. "

While I wish I could afford to commission the artist to do a custom piece... I love that she has the option of buying a print from her
Etsy shop. Maybe one day I will commission her to paint one of the books that we love to read to Collins.

Under Construction

I acidentally hit a button and changed my blogger layout. Is there anyway to get it back like it was? I am not very savvy when it comes to things like this.

So as of now... it's under construction until I get it looking like I want it to.

Maybe it's time for a change... although I'm not much on change. I freaked out when I realized that I had messed it up. But it's been almost 3 years of it looking the same... maybe it's time for a revamp!

Fall-ish Inspiration

Although we're almost half-way through October- it's still getting up to the 90's during the day here in Alabama. A little too warm for those of us craving the cooler fall temps. But things are changing {hence all of the leaves in my yard and the need of a yardman}. Thanks for your comments/emails asking about the 'yard man'. Husband didn't think it was necessary at first... but once the work was complete and he saw how many bags of leaves were put on the curb- he didn't mind a bit.

I love this collection of images that they put together on House and Home. I'm a fan of how they brought some of the outside in... and am really liking the use of darker colors.

Modern-Farmhouse Living Room

I really like this modern-farmhouse inspired living room that I came across on the House & Home site. This image is all that I could find {sources here} but it says that it is in the November issue. I can't wait to see it in print.

Today I've been:

1. Making pumpkin bread. And resisting the urge to cut out the center piece like I did here. I've tried two recipes (one on the link above and one listed below). The one below is my favorite:
Pumpkin Bread
3.5 c flour
3 c sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1.5 tsp salt
4 eggs
2/3 c water
1 c oil
1 can pumpkin
3 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ginger
Combine dry ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour.

2. I've also been cleaning the house while listening to Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. Love her music.
. 3. Looking at fall images and wanting to bring some of the outdoors in. Paula's images below have inspired me:4. Speaking of outdoors--- I am currently waiting for the yard man to arrive. I say 'the' and not 'my' because it's a first time thing. I hope that Michael doesn't mind. I am thinking of it as a treat for him. He's been so busy and hasn't had time for the yard and with the little one here--- I don't have much time for it either. And if he does mind--- I will just remind myself that sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission!

I've been enjoying looking at all of the different fall images that everyone is posting.
This one looks like the perfect spot to end the day with a nice meal and a glass of wine.
