dear bosch

Dear Bosch,
I have been researching appliances for weeks now... and I am tired of it. I have looked at everything under the sun- Kitchenaid, GE, Viking, Sub-Zero, Frigidaire, Wolf, and then I learned about you.

I love what I've seen and the prices are great. Customer service has been great to answer my questions. Your prices can't be beat. And your products are made in the good ole' U S of A. Perfect.

One small problem... I would love for all of my appliances to be from the same manufacturer but your side-by-side fridge does not meet my 2 requirements. One I can give up. One I cannot.

My first one was that I wanted a 42" wide unit instead of a 36"... but I decided I could let that requirement go (even though it is still lingering). The one thing I can't let go is:

The dispenser on the front of this unit. Everything about this fridge/freezer is perfect except for that dispenser. I want one without. Can you please make me one?! Is a plain front side-by-side too much to ask for?

Thanks so much,
Brooke

Funny! That was also my requirement for a fridge, and I ended up with one with water on the door--and I am SO GLAD. I really do like the convenience. Hope you can find what you want!

We had all Bosch appliances in our last home...amazing! But our fridge had the water dispenser on the front too (I loved it but it looks so clean without one) Good luck with your search!

The fridge we are getting doesn't have a dispenser. My husband is worried about not having that feature but, I am looking forward to the clean look. Good luck!

Don't give up on that one Brooke! We had one at our old house and then our son Jack figured out what it did he spent hours soaking my floors. He would push a chair up to it and hold down the lever. Anytime things got quiet in our house I knew exactly where he was. At the very least do they make it with a lock?! Have you looked at the subzero. We have one now and I adore it. It is really wide but shallow so things do not get lost in the back you can see everything when you open the door. Good luck on this one and I am loving your renovation posts, so exciting! M.

I've been on the gardenweb forums a long time now. They have really good insight into appliances. I've learned a lot. I also gave up a 42". We're going with a 36" cabinet depth French door (I'm over our side by side layout!!) I'm looking at a Kitchenaid 72" tall model with the water dispenser right inside the door. I like that it's still sleek on the outside yet still offers the water option. The other one I'm eyeing up is a Samsung model that's rated really well. Do either of these guys offer a side by side without the door ice/water? I know the French door models I'm looking at have high satisfaction rates.

I'm not one to buy from one manufacturer because rarely is one maker good at all things. It's a shame.

dispenser + children = NIGHTMARE! Skip it. They love to play with it all day long. And when they out grow screwing around with it. They will over fill everything! The Kitchen Aid has one inside at a height out of reach for the little guys. And Sub Zero has just added the inside feature to their line. :)

I understand completely. I bought the Jennair without the dispenser on the front and I love it. I actually think Jennair is made by Bosch. Have a great weekend!!

I am not sure how much room you have to work with, but we ended up going with an all fridge all freezer combo and have loved it. After a lot of research we went with the Elextrolux version. We have had it for over 4 years now with no problems and would never go back. Kennmore actually makes a little cheaper version, but it feels cheap (drawers and such). Anyway, I am not even sure this is really what you are looking for, but if you have the space, I highly recommend it! (and it looks really nice to boot!)

When we moved into our house nearly 3 years ago we were so thrilled to see that the old appliances had just been replaced with Bosch appliances. The dishwasher is SO quiet, we thought we'd fallen in love. Unfortunately, it does the worst job ever on actually washing the dishes...gah! I've tried different soaps, doing a pre-rinse, etc. and it just sucks. I hate to be so blunt, but I really can't stand the thing. We essentially have to soak all of our dirty dishes in the sink, and then rinse well before loading them into the dishwasher for them to stand a chance at coming out clean. My aunt has the same gripe with her Bosch dishwasher...what a let-down. I'd go back to my clunky, noisy GE anyday. Sigh. So my advice is to research carefully and read reviews prior to buying a Bosch dishwasher--hopefully they have improved in the last few years.

Leah is right. I love my Bosch dishwasher because it is so quiet, but I am on my third diswasher in 5 years. They suck. They first one leaked and they couldn't figure out how to fix it, so they gave me a new one (Sears did). The next one's 'mother board' (whatever that is kept going out). I've been so disappointed...

On refrigerators, I got rid of my french door model with no ice or water in the door (we thought that was what we wanted) and got the new Samsung with the water and ice in the door. I love my ice and water in the door more than anything in my kitchen (except my Cuisenart coffee maker). I do have a baby gate up so the boy can't get into the kitchen, though. He loves buttons too much and the temptation would be too much for him to stand.
