Back to the dining room. I've gone back and forth on this room and it has changed quite a bit (luckily before I committed to anything).
Here is my original design board:
I decided to use my table in the breakfast room so that leaves me with no table (or chairs). I still haven't decided between the two chandeliers but hope to decide this week. The West Elm rug is currently on the floor and the chest is in the room as you can see below... but all of this could be temporary. My new thought is to do a round table. I am leaning towards something inexpensive and with a skirt to the floor... that will get me by for a few years until I can find a pretty antique table that I can afford.
With that said... here is the current state of the dining room (added note: hard to tell but walls, ceiling, & trim are all BM White Dove):
And here is my updated design board (with the two rooms that inspired the round table idea):
Skirted table with possible chairs shown above. Some ideas that I am pondering:
- light fixture above table (I know, I've blogged this before... still loving both of these Visual Comfort Fixtures)
- dark or light table cover
- dark or light panels for windows (and do I do velvet or linen?!)
I love hearing from my blog readers and would love your thoughts!
Thanks a million.

LOVE it! With sticky fingers and less washing I would go dark for the skirt. It will be gorgeous brooke! Want to come to my house? I know you're not busy or anything ;) What color is that paint BTW?
Really enjoying seeing little snips of your new house. I am always a big fan of the round table because it is so conducive to great dinner conversation and no one seat is 'better' than another! You couldn't go wrong with either light fixture, but based on what else I have seen in what inspiration images you post and other photos of your home, I prefer the Visual Comfort Bryant pendant. - Rachel
seriously good. I'm with paula...which paint color is that? LOVE that table with french legs you've shown in the first board. I really want one just like that at a good price. who doesn't? also those dark drapes are super. This hits so many levels for me. donna
I was wondering if you had decided on a chandelier while I was away! Can't wait to see how it all comes together for you!
hugs,

I LOVE a round table in a dining room. Easy to get around and good for convo. I also like the way they look skirted and piled up with books when not in use! And you could change the way it looks with a different skirt, which you could totally make yourself (in a few months, that is :) ) Off the top of my head I think light curtains (room looks dark?) and today I like the Thomas O'B fixture (both pretty!). How is that rug working for you? Been eyeing it myself ...
Almost time for baby! YAY!!
Oh and, with a skirt, thrift store table base + plywood top and you're in business.
The skirted table is a great idea....I was wondering if the room is dark also? If so, maybe go with lighter fabrics. I really like both chandeliers but I love the Thomas O' Brian light! Oh, decisions!!! Good luck.
I really like the skirted table idea! And the TOB chandelier is the winner!
LOVE the round table idea. I did a round table in a friend's house this past year and she adores it. We did a more fitted table skirt (round top with four flat pleats on the sides) and it looked amazing! I think it would be fun to make a light and a dark one for different seasons! Love the more modern chandy and the chairs are marvelous!! Love this new direction! M.
Velvet curtains would be dressy for a formal dining room. Could you get two skirts for the table? Switch them out every season or depending on your mood. It looks beautiful!
I love the new design board! I especially like the idea of the round skirted table--and, for my own curiosity's sake, I'm wondering if you do a glass top with something like that? or is that a design faux pas? I adore all the pieces you picked! can't wait to read about the new wee one's arrival :) blessings to your family!
get two of these...I wish they would have been around for a project I just finished. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Deco-Bacall-Ivory-Slip-Cover-Side-Chair/6182753/product.html?rcmndsrc=2 ...you didn't ask about chairs, but there is my input:) happy new year friend! stephanie
Ok, love the rug! Love the dove white paint. My vote is for linen drapes. I love velvet but when the warm weather comes they just seem out of place. I have linen and NEVER tire of them. Now that you are going with the skirted round table , the chandelier "goes" better with the skirted look. I adore everything you have chosen thus far. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the options you presented.
So excited about the round table! I think it's the perfect choice for your room. If I didn't have my grandmother's gorgeous table, I would have round. So great for conversation. I would also do a darker cloth if the chairs are light and linen drapes. Of course, the Paris flea market chandelier will be perfect! Cannot wait to see how you transform the space. xo
Hi, I have been reading your blog for awhile now but this is my first comment. Anyway, it is all very pretty! Can you share who makes the lighting you posted?
I look forward to seeing about about the arrival of your little one!
Thank you!
Shannon
nevermind. I found your old post with the info on the lighting. Sorry!
Where is the chest from? thx!
I love the skirted table idea. Anything you do will look amazing.
I vote for dark velvet curtains and the modern light fiture. Oh I have that same rug in my dining room and I have loved it. I got mine from home decorator's and I think it may be cheaper than west elm, so you might still be able to save some money on it.
oh great. now im dreaming of a round dining table, and its all your fault =) love the idea my friend. love.
go for the paris chandelier..will add some drama to the room...congratulations on the new little one!
