i need help

Ever since I read this post by Bryn... I've been thinking about getting a camera. Then I remembered that my mother-in-law recently gave me one of her old ones (that I had shoved in a drawer in my office). I pulled it out today and it's a Canon EOS Rebel XT. It looks like this:

And the instruction manual (if that makes a difference):

But as you can see in the first photo.... I don't have a lens. Since I don't have a camera and she gave me this one... is it one I should keep? Or invest in a newer one? If I keep it... what lens should I get? I'd love one that would work for taking pictures of my boys... as well as some interior shots here and there. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. And I'll be back with a design post tomorrow!

She is selling them at a discounted rate. They are $630 each plus shipping (she will charge you exact shipping cost from UPS). They retail for $1050 a piece.

bits and pieces

Some bits and pieces from my brain and a few things on my radar.

Love these bangles from Sweet Auburn Studio.  Adding them to my wish list.
Vintage Brass Zig Zag Bangle

I saw this font on Elements of Style... and I am so tempted to purchase. I have a thing for fonts... esp if they look like this!

I'm sure most of you are pinners... and probably already know this. But I found out today while reading Katie Beth's blog that "before you pin something, use your cursor to highlight a description of the item on that site, then click the pin icon in your tool bar, and wa-lah! Automatically that highlighted description will appear in the pop up box!". Who knew... because I sure didn't!

And while speaking of Katie Beth's blog... I saw that she made a book using Blurb. I'm in the process of working on publishing Collins' first year via a Blurb book. My first deadline was before we moved to Mississippi last june (which was just after his first birthday) and then I said by Christmas. Now I have VOWED to finish it before his 2nd birthday which is only a month and a half away.

And while on the subject of Collins turning 2... I've started brainstorming for party ideas. I'm not sure what direction I will go but there are so many cute ideas out there. Here are a couple that have caught my eye (more on my kiddo party board here):

fishing pole cupcakes...adorable
What a great, smart idea for birthday parties. Pre-scoop your ice cream, insert a small wooden spoon, roll in sprinkles, refreeze.
Adding this bag to my wish list...

Happy Wednesday!

randomness (plus some house pics)

My mom told me this week... you haven't blogged in awhile. As if I didn't already know that! I just don't know where the time goes!
This is what I've been up to (via my iPhone):
My final three light fixtures from Visual Comfort came in and were installed. Yay for marking those off of my list.
Basil Flush Mount on the Powder Bath Ceiling
*I turned on the lights so you could see the planking on the walls that several of you have asked about

Lantern in the foyer

Bryant Chandelier in the Dining Room (along with the Alabaster Ring lamp that I moved from another location)
And the reasons why my house is empty and not finished.
1. Spending time with my favorite two little boys (which I would pick over any thing, any day)
Making Easter happies for Collins' classmates at MMO
(aren't these carrot eggs from the Dollar Tree so cute?)
2. I've also been spending my free time working on projects for some local clients:

3. And since this post is full of random things... Thought I'd show you these baskets that I found at TJ Maxx last week. As you know from this post... you can never have too many baskets:
